Lacking an auto poses problems in university

As I fly down I-80 on the final stretch of a trip I took to Los Angeles last summer, I hear the terrible crunching sound of machinery struggling to work. I press my foot onto the gas pedal of my 1997 Volvo and silently urge it to get me home to Reno as the car slows down against my will and begins to lurch.
